Netflix has released an appropriately over-the-top trailer for Day Shift, an action-comedy about Jamie Foxx as a down-on-his-luck vampire hunter trying to pay his bills, keep his family together, and get back in the good graces of his profession's union. The film hits the streaming service August 12.
As the clip below demonstrates, the film more than makes good on Foxx's recent promise during Geeked Week that the movie is packed with «eating popcorn moments.» Foxx's character Bud is championed by Snoop Dogg's Big John Elliott, who is trying to help his colleague back in the union and in the larger fight against the evil undead. Day Shift is shaping up to be a big, goofy movie about hard work, the damage secrets can have on family, and why vampires are the scourge of the Earth.
The script comes from Tyler Tice--with revisions and punch-ups from Shay Hatten (John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum)--and will be helmed by first-time director JJ Perry. Tice's script won the 2017 Slamdance Writing Competition Grand Prize, which reportedly helped get it noticed and scooped up to be made.
In addition to Foxx and Snoop, the film's supporting cast includes Dave Franco, Karla Souza, Meagan Good, Oliver Masucci, Steve Howey, Scott Adkins, Zion Broadnax, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo.
