Whether it's something as quaint as a fetch quest, or a difficult battle against a Dragon Priest, players can sometimes use the help of a follower in — but for some reason, the game's best characters didn't make the cut. These characters are some of the most iconic faces from across the Nord's homeland, and their skills and personalities would make for good companions throughout the Dragonborn's adventures.
Despite the many followers available, some particular characters leave much to be desired. Lydia is one such example, as the first available Housecarl is notorious for getting herself stuck in annoying locations, ruining the player's stealth run, and overall not making the brightest decisions. There are a few followers that are worth the trouble in , but they tend to be few and far between — and so the game could've benefited from including these lovable characters as possible companions, instead.

Argonians are some of 's most underrated characters, and this reflects in the fact that there's only one existing Argonian follower in the entire game. Derkeethus is a great companion, and rescuing him from Darkwater Pass is an adventure in itself, but Tamriel's reptilian race deserves more representation.
Specifically, Talen-Jei from Riften would be an excellent pick. During the few interactions the Dragonborn shares with Talen-Jei, he comes across as a humble and down-to-earth character, and he's especially grateful if they help him collect valuable resources for an Argonian wedding ring. So while he wouldn't be the strongest follower, he would certainly be loyal to the player.
