After three decades of amassing horror fans, the Scream franchise's latest installment drops this week, meaning the return of the newest scream queen favorite Ortega, who has been winning fans with her appearances in Scream 5, Ty West's X, and her role as Wednesday Addams in the popular Netflix series Wednesday. Ortega returns this week as one of the surviving sisters of the last film, Tara Carpenter, pursued by another new incarnation of Ghostface. The actress has often spoken about her love of horror entertainment, which has made her gravitate to roles in the genre.

In a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting, Ortega recommended one of her slasher favorites, famed Italian director Dario Argento's 1975 film Deep Red. “I really don’t know that this works as a double feature, but I’ve been talking about that film, Deep Red,” Ortega says, “which is a ’70s, slasher, masked killer; you don’t know who it is. Epic deaths, disco music playing during the deaths. I think it’s just a good time and beautifully shot.” Argento, one of horror's most renowned directors of the past century, is known for his gore and violence. Contemporary filmmakers often cite his style as an inspiration for the American slasher genre. His legacy includes films like Suspiria (1977), Tenebrae (1982), andPhenomena (1985).
