2K and Firaxis have finally unveiled gameplay for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII following the game’s official announcement at this year’s Summer Games Fest.
Making its debut at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, Firaxis released a two minute gameplay as well as a 20 minute deep dive on what is looking to be the biggest shakeup in the Civilization series since Firaxis introduced one unit per tile in Civilization V.
By far the most significant change here is that players will now play as multiple civs per campaign, with a new choice being made at the beginning of each of the game’s three eras: Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern. Leaders can also be mixed and matched with different civilizations, though more historical paths will be suggested to the player.
Besides the many gameplay changes, players also were eager to find out who would compose the game’s music and serve as its narrator. On the music side, Christopher Tin, known for Civ 4’s Baba Yetu and Civ 6’s Sogno di Volare main themes, returns once again for Civ 7. As for the narrator, well, it’s another Game of Thrones alum this time around in Gwendoline Christine, best known for her role in GoT as Brienne of Tarth.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII will release on February 11, 2025. Pre-orders are available now.
