Shazam! Fury of the Gods will see Billy Batson (Asher Angel) concerned about his future. Director David F. Sandberg's first Shazam came out in 2019, chronicling the story of Angel's orphaned teenager as he develops the ability to transform into an adult superhero (Zachary Levi) after a run-in with an ancient wizard (Djimon Hounsou). Shazam was a commercial and critical success, grossing $366 million and garnering praise for its vibrant, cheerful sense of fun. A sequel was greenlit soon after, and after numerous scheduling changes, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will debut in theaters this December.
The movie is being touted as a bigger and more action-packed follow-up to the original Shazam. Fury of the Gods has a pair of exciting new supervillains — Hespera, played by Helen Mirren, and Kalypso, played by Lucy Liu- and costume upgrades for the entire Shazam family. Those upgrades will be supported by a time jump, as Shazam 2 will take place two years after the first movie. For Billy, this means he will be in a new place in his life as he and his siblings get older.
