Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki has revealed in a recent interview that Shadow of the Erdtree will be about as difficult as the second half of the main game.
After nearly two years since Elden Ring originally released and stole our collective hearts, minds, and swear words, we're finally approaching the release of Shadow of the Erdtree next month. As excited as we've all been, though, there's been one big question on every hardcore FromSoftware fan's mind - will it be difficult?
That might sound like a weird question considering FromSoftware's reputation and how tough the base game was, but you have to remember just how good fans have gotten at Elden Ring over the past few years. We've seen players use goldfishes and bubbles to beat bosses, so it's fair to wonder if it'll present a challenge or be a cakewalk for all you challenge-beating heroes out there.
As reported by GamesRadar+, Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently spoke to Chinese outlet Gōuhuǒ yíngdì about the upcoming expansion. During the interview, which was translated by Twitter user swordandflower alongside Google and DeepL, Miyazaki is asked about the difficulty level of Shadow of the Erdtree compared to the main game.
In response, Miyazaki revealed that the difficulty level of the DLC should match the latter half of the base game. As someone who didn't even get to Malenia, that certainly sounds like it's going to be tough, which Miyazaki confirms by saying that it should be "relatively high" and present a challenge to even the most skilled players. Maybe not Let Me Solo Her, though.
"The difficulty level of the DLC should be around the later half of the game since the player needs to defeat Radahn and Mohg, and by that point, the player should have developed a certain understanding for the game. Overall, since it’s the later half, the difficulty level should be relatively high."
