Good news for retro gaming fans: Sega is indeed bringing the Genesis Mini 2 to North America after previously announcing the product for Japan.
On Wednesday, Sega announced(Opens in a new window) that the product, also known as the Mega Drive Mini 2, will launch in North America on Oct. 27 exclusively on Amazon.
The console represents another modern revival of the Sega Genesis. Back in 2019, the company introduced the first Sega Genesis Mini, which went on to receive rave reviews for its faithful design, excellent emulation, and built-in access to 42 classic game titles. It will also include hardware support to run several games from the Sega CD add-on system.
In addition, the Genesis Mini 2 will feature(Opens in a new window) over 50 built-in games, which seem to be entirely different from the catalog present in the first Genesis Mini. The company has so far revealed 23 of the games, which will include Sonic CD, Shining Force CD, Vectorman 2, Splatterhouse 2, and Alien Soldier, among many others.
Sega is also teasing that the system will include games the public has never seen before, along with ports of other “blockbuster arcade games.”

Sega first unveiled(Opens in a new window) the product for the Japanese market last month, but at the time Sega was mum on whether it’d see an international release. The original Sega Genesis Mini
