OpenAI’s board of directions recently made the decision to remove Sam Altman as CEO, and though there has been a power struggle to reinstate him back to his original position, the final verdict will remain unchanged. Mira Murati, OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer, was said to be the company’s interim CEO, but now, a former Twitch Chief Executive will take that position.
A total of three CEOs have been changed at OpenAI in three days, with new information stating that co-founder and board director Ilya Sutskever internally announced the appointment of the executive. Altman’s removal by the board resulted from the OpenAI founder apparently not being candid in his communications, and they no longer felt that he could pursue his goals responsibly.
Altman had also returned to the OpenAI office the previous morning, stating that it would be the first and last time that he wore a badge, hinting that the former CEO would either return as the company’s head or he would not be allowed to set foot in the building. Based on the appointment of Shear, we will likely no longer hear from Altman, but that does not mean he will not provide his followers with routine updates on X.
