One X-Men character might make an MCU debut sooner than fans expected, as a recent rumor suggests that they will appear in the upcoming season of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's highly successful anthology series.
With the X-Men now under Marvel Studios' umbrella, fans look forward to seeing some iconic characters from the team in the MCU, with many diehard fans most excited for Storm, a mutant with such potent weather manipulation powers that she’s worshiped as a deity. While Storm and many other fan favorites are set to return to screens in the animated reboot series, it's unknown whether X-Men '97 will be part of the MCU or a standalone thing.
While an official X-Men project for the MCU proper is still a long way off, fans excited to see Storm specifically might not have to wait as long as everyone else, as a new rumor suggests that the Weather Witch will officially appear ahead of her teammates. According to CanWeGetSomeToast, Storm is set to appear in the upcoming third season of Marvel Studios' What If…? anthology series, which will mark the character's debut in any MCU multiverse. While What If…? season 3 won’t be released until late 2024 or early 2025, this is still far earlier than any MCU X-Men film will premiere.
Including Storm in What If…? season 3will be an interesting prospect, as the show has given fans some seriously far-out versions of their favorite heroes and villains in situations that would never occur in the mainline MCU. While the What If…? format is so successful that Disney is rumored to be making a What If..? series for the Star Wars franchise, this doesn’t mean that everyone is on board with Storm making her first MCU appearance in the show. Despite being something fans enjoy deeply, the show has no responsibility to present the character accurately, nor does any new and unique take on the character have any chance of sticking in actual canon representations.
