Developer Psionix has announced that the rocket-powered Rocket League will be doing away with player-to-player trading from 5th December in order to better «align with Epic's overall approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies».
The feature was introduced back in 2016, allowing players to trade certain items with one another, a great way to offload duplicates and get that certain special something. Players will still be able to use the Trade-In system to exchange duplicate Core Items, Tournament Items and Blueprints for a random new item, and any item received via trade before the 5th December cutoff will remain theirs to keep.
Epic Games acquired Psionix in 2019, and the one-two punch of Fortnite and Rocket League seemed to be an indefinitely lucrative combo for the company. However, the company recently laid off almost 900 employees, some 16% of its workforce, in an effort to cut costs. CEO Tim Sweeney admitted that: «For a while now, we've been spending way more money than we earn.»
