Baldur's Gate 3 just swept the Golden Joystick Awards, winning in six different categories. This includes the Ultimate Game of the Year award, and even Studio of the Year for its developer, Larian.
The cast was also praised, with Astarion actor Neil Newbon taking home the prize for the best supporting performer. Even the fanbase got a shout-out, as Baldur's Gate 3 won an award for having the best community, netting the prize with a staggering 72 percent of the vote.
Outside of these huge categories, Baldur's Gate 3 also won Best Storytelling, Best Visual Design, and Best PC Game of the Year. It was the most celebrated game of the show, with Final Fantasy 16 and Cyberpunk 2077 also feeling the love, winning awards in two categories each.
Baldur's Gate 3 had fierce competition in all of its categories, especially in its bid to take home the prize for the Ultimate Game of the Year. Here, it fended off The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Diablo 4, Final Fantasy 16, and much more.
The game's success has come as a surprise to all, even those who played the game during the early access period. CRPGs are typically seen as a niche genre with less wide appeal - a reputation that didn't hold Baldur's Gate 3 down one bit. At least anecdotally, it seems that its characters and narrative won over sceptics, even if its turn-based combat may have taken some getting used to.
