The new Batman has discussed how he couldn’t choose between Aerith and Tifa, as Catwoman rolls her eye.
If you thought Henry Cavill banging on about Warhammer was an unusual thing for a major movie star to do, how about Robert Pattinson explaining his childhood crush on the women of Final Fantasy 7, while trying and failing to extol the game’s virtues to Zoë Kravitz?
Pattinson is Bruce Wayne in the new Batman movie and Kravitz is Catwoman, and while doing press for the film in France the topic somehow got onto Final Fantasy 7 and how a young Pattison learnt about love through the antics of Aerith and Tifa.
Kravitz clearly has no idea what he’s talking about though, as he tries desperately to describe the difference between the two characters and even gets into details like the spelling of Aerith’s name.
Pattison’s explanation includes Aeirth’s ability to ‘heal everyone’, as he also enthuses over Tifa and her short skirts, at which point Kravitz’s eyes seem to roll almost completely out of her head.
Even if she doesn’t know the game, she clearly recognises the tropes involved and complains, ‘Poor women, we have to heal everyone…’ before giving up in exasperation and exclaiming: ‘This is the problem with the world!’
Although he doesn’t seem to have mentioned video games much during the press tour Pattison does appear to be a massive nerd in general, and has frequently talked of his admiration of Batman: The Animated Series and the theatrically released Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
These are not the sort of subjects you’d expect major stars to be discussing in a mainstream setting but it’s becoming increasingly commonplace, even when the thing they’re promoting has nothing to do with video games or other previously shunned
