The Batman producer Dylan Clark discusses whether or not future sequels of Matt Reeves' new franchise will remain within the «Year Two» setting. Warner Bros. is re-telling the Dark Knight's story once again on the big-screen only a few years after Ben Affleck's DCEU iteration. While Affleck was initially set to star in The Batman, the project was instead re-tooled into a new franchise set outside the DCEU with Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. Luckily, with Batman's origin story being universally known at this point, Reeves' DC picture is jumping ahead while still focusing on a Caped Crusader who is still relatively new as a crime fighter.
While Batman: Year One is a partial influence for The Batman, the story will revolve around Bruce's second year as Gotham City's protector. With the introduction of several iconic Batman villains in the film, Edward Nashton, a.k.a. The Riddler, played by Paul Dano, will be the primary antagonist. The Batman was initially going to hit theaters in 2021, but the global COVID-19 pandemic delayed its release date numerous times, as the reboot is finally arriving in cinemas later this week. Despite there already being ideas for future The Batman sequels, the focus right now for the creative team is to have the world see their first story.
