A new fan poster sees Joaquin Phoenix's Joker looming over Robert Pattinson's Batman in a broken glass style similar to the Doctor Strange sequel. Phoenix brought his incarnation of the Clown Prince of Crime to life in Todd Phillips' eponymous 2019 film that served as an origin story for the villain as aspiring stand-up comedian Arthur Fleck slowly descends into madness over a frustration with society. Joker received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and was a box office smash, grossing over $1 billion against its estimated $70 million budget, becoming the first R-rated film to cross the billion-dollar milestone.
Pattinson has donned the cape and cowl for Matt Reeves' The Batman, which picks up in Bruce Wayne's second year of fighting crime in Gotham City as he contends with a deep web of corruption seemingly tied to his family's past and to emerging serial killer The Riddler. Hitting theaters this month, the film has scored rave reviews from critics and audiences alike and is already on its way to a major box office haul, grossing over $258 million in its opening weekend to become the highest-grossing DC movie opening since 2016's Suicide Squad.
