Warning! SPOILERS for The Batman.
Paul Dano explains how filming delays brought on by the COVID production shutdown affected the filming of The Batman'sRiddler interrogation scene. The filmhas been a hit with both critics and audiences, with many lauding its cinematography, music, and performances and hailing it the best Batman since Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. The Batman showcases a grittier, more realistic take on the World's Greatest Detective, which extends to Dano's Riddler. Last played on film by Jim Carrey in 1995's Batman Forever, Dano's Riddler is instead a sadistic serial killer, inspired in part by the real-life Zodiac killer. The result is lightyears away from Carrey's lighter, more charismatic Riddler, with Dano's proving to be a more plausible real-world villain.
The Batman focuses on Year Two of Robert Pattinson's caped crusader, eschewing retelling the in-depth origin story of how exactly Bruce Wayne became Batman. With greater emphasis on Batman's detective skills, the film delves into Gotham's criminal underworld as Batman attempts to uncover The Riddler's clues, leading him deeper into the city's corruption. After The Riddler is finally unmasked, he and Batman have an intense confrontation near the end of the film, which proves to be a pivotal moment for both characters.
