Warning: This post contains spoilers for The Batman
An artist has posited a potential design for Barry Keoghan’s Joker after his brief cameo appearance in The Batman. Releasing in theaters worldwide earlier this month, Matt Reeves’ reimagining of the Batman mythos has proven to be popular with fans and critics alike, with the film receiving rave reviews and solid numbers at the box office, meaning follow ups are more than likely. The film follows Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne in the second year of his crusade against crime in Gotham City. In The Batman, Pattinson's Dark Knight encounters The Riddler (Paul Dano), a maniacal serial killer who uncovers dark secrets of the city’s elite class.
The film was notable for featuring several other members of Batman’s rogues gallery in supporting roles, such as Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Penguin, but was also sure to check in with his arch-nemesis, The Joker, before the credits rolled. Portrayed by Keoghan, The Batman's version of the Joker is seen only at the end of the film and is credited as ‘Unnamed Arkham Prisoner,’ filmed only in shadow as he strikes up a friendship with Dano’s Riddler. While this was only a cameo appearance, it’s clear from the implications of the scene that Reeves and his team have plans down the line for this new version of Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime.
