The Batman has released in theaters and provided a new take on the Dark Knight while also opening many opportunities for a tie-in game to develop the film universe. After the Batman: Arkham series concluded the Dark Knight's adventures in crimefighting, there's been a distinct lack of DC games featuring the character. While Rocksteady's upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League takes place in the same universe as Batman: Arkham Knight, the Caped Crusader won't be featured as the headliner. Given The Batman's popularity, smaller projects surrounding Robert Pattinson's character could begin appearing across different platforms. The movie didn't provide much backstory for Bruce Wayne's vigilante career, leaving many stories and characters available for future tie-in games.
[Warning: SPOILERS AHEAD For The Batman.]
Similar to the non-Rocksteady developed Batman: Arkham Origins prequel, The Batman takes place in Bruce Wayne's early years as the Dark Knight. While he has successfully created a functioning relationship with the Gotham City Police Department and established a reputation in the city, crime still runs rampant. The movie begins with the Riddler's murder spree throughout Gotham City's collection of corrupt politicians and judicial systems. Clues are left as riddles accompany each crime scene, leading Batman down an increasingly deranged investigation. Unlike other Batman films, The Batman shines a spotlight on the Dark Knight's detective abilities, focusing on his intellect rather than his crimefighting arsenal. Bruce Wayne's youthfulness prevents many villains from appearing but presents the beloved character in a fresher light. It also provides an opportunity for tie-in games to explore other adventures.
