The Batman director Matt Reeves says that Robert Pattinson's awkwardness helped his performance in the film. The Batman marks the latest live-action iteration of the Caped Crusader to hit the big screen. Pattinson's Batman is the first interpretation of the character to exist outside of the DCEU since Christian Bale took on the role in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy. The Batman follows the hero in his second year of crime-fighting as he tracks down a mysterious new serial killer known as The Riddler (Paul Dano). Since its release at the beginning of March, The Batman has been met with rave reviews from both fans and critics, and some even claim to have liked it more than The Dark Knight.
With the success of The Batman, it seems almost silly that so many fans were very skeptical when Pattinson was first cast as Bruce Wayne. While many have praised his performance now, Pattinson was certainly not many people's first choice when the casting was announced. While most actors who have taken on the role of Batman have had to bulk up to play the crime-fighting vigilante, Pattison is a particularly lanky person, who is known for being both somewhat physically and socially awkward when seen in interviews. On top of this, Pattison was most well known for his portrayal of Edward in the Twilight saga, which is not the most Batman-like character out there.
