The Steam database entry for what is almost certainly Returnal continues to receive regular updates as an eventual reveal appears to be all but guaranteed.
In May, SteamDB logged the presence of a new product in the database which goes by the codename ‘Oregon’.
While it wasn’t immediately clear what the game is, certain localisation strings in the game’s listing make it clear that it’s a PC port of Returnal.
Now the site’s history page shows that the in-development game continues to get new builds on a daily basis.
On Thursday, for example, the game’s achievements were updated with new localisations, with 19 new languages added.
Although the Oregon codename doesn’t give away that the game is Returnal, its localisation strings include such phrases as ‘Atropos’, ‘Tower of Sisyphus’, ‘In Helios’ and ‘Returning’, making the game’s identity clear.
In May a source also shared footage with VGC appearing to show Returnal running on PC, which strongly suggests it’s one of the next PlayStation console exclusives in line for a port.
Returnal released for PS5 last April and is Finnish studio Housemarque’s largest and most ambitious project, following several decades focused on 2D arcade-style shooters such as Super Stardust HD and Resogun. Following the game’s release, Housemarque was acquired by Sony.
A PC version of Returnal was included on a huge ‘leak’ of unannounced games on Nvidia’s GeForce Now streaming service last year.
Many other games on the leaked list have since been released, including the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy remasters and the PC version of God of War. Another Sony game mentioned on the list, a PC version of Sackboy: A Big Adventure, also appeared in the Steam backend last year but has yet to be officially announced.
