Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott will not be returning for Scream 6, but revelations that she was originally a part of the story have made this news even harder to swallow. The Canadian actress, whose big movie break came in 1996 in Wes Craven's original Scream movie, will be absent for the first time from a sequel to the popular slasher. Sidney Prescott is perhaps the franchise's most fundamental character, leading some to question whether Scream 6 can live up to expectations in her absence.
Sidney Prescott is the protagonist of the original Scream movie who finds herself having to evade the deadly Ghostface killers. Several sequels have followed Wes Craven's hit satirical horror movie, all of which have involved Prescott at some level. Prescott's last appearance in the franchise is in 2022's Scream, which is the fifth installment in the franchise. The 2022 horror flick sees a largely new cast led by Jenna Ortega (Tara), Melissa Barrera (Sam), and Jack Quaid (Richie) joined by old favorites Courtney Cox (Gale Weathers) and David Arquette (Dewey Riley) as they once again fight to survive against a masked killer or two. Sidney, now a married mother of three, returns to Woodsboro upon hearing the news that Dewey has been murdered by Ghostface. In a climax deliberately similar to that of its original and namesake, Sidney finds herself having to take down two killers at a house party. The story ends with her sitting in an ambulance with an injured Gale, with the town safe once again from the movie-obsessed Ghostface persona.
