PLL: Original Sin's Horror Movie Easter Eggs Are Kind Of Great

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is full of fun Easter eggs and references to popular horror movies. For example, Tabby Hayworthe (Chandler Kinney) is a huge horror movie buff and directly references several horror titles throughout the show's first three episodes, including references to Get Out, Us, Psycho, Zodiac, Midsommar, Hereditary, and Poltergeist. Besides mentioning the titles of popular horror films, Original Sin includes smaller references as well, such as the font of the title card, which matches the font of Halloween, and Millwood High School's janitor, whose name is Jason. Faran's mother, Corey Bryant (Zakiya Young), even works at a law firm called Strode, Prescott, Ripley Associates, which references Laurie Strode from Halloween, Sidney Prescott from Scream, and Ellen Ripley from Alien.

Beyond these small Easter eggs, the first three episodes of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin also contain many scenes that are reminiscent of scenes from other horror films. In episode 1, «Chapter One: Spirit Week,» Imogen Adams (Bailee Madison) is sitting in a classroom twirling her pen when she spots the masked «A» outside the window, a reference to when Laurie Strode spotted Michael Myers for the first time. In another reference to Halloween, the scene where Imogen and Tabby walk to school together mirrors the scene where Laurie Strode and Annie Brackett walk home from school. In episode 2, «Chapter Two: The Spirit Queen,» Karen and Kelly Beasley (Mallory Bechtel) attempt to dump a bucket of red paint on Imogen's head at the Jordan Peele double feature, referencing when Carrie White gets pig's blood dumped on her while accepting the title of Prom Queen in Carrie.
