The Steam database entry for what is almost certainly Sony‘s Returnal has been updated again, refuelling speculation that Housemarque‘s 2021 shooter could soon be revealed for the platform.
Codename ‘Oregon’ was discovered on SteamDB in May.
While it wasn’t immediately clear what the game is, certain localisation strings in the game’s listing make it clear that it’s a PC port of Returnal.
Now eagle-eyed users have noted further updates to the listing, with several rapid changes being made within the space of a few days.
The following updates were spotted by ResetEra user Mocha Joe:
While this doesn’t infer anything about when the game is likely to be revealed, the frequency of updates to the app itself could suggest a short time between the announcement and release. Sony’s PC ports so far have typically only seen a few months between confirmation and release.
Marvel’s Spider-Man was revealed last month and will be released in August. However, this isn’t always the case, as the promised PC version of Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves has yet to release despite the console counterpart launching in January.
Earlier this year, VGC was provided footage appearing to show Returnal running on PC, which strongly suggests it’s one of the next PlayStation console exclusives in line for a port.
Returnal was released for PS5 last April and is Finnish studio Housemarque’s largest and most ambitious project, following several decades focused on 2D arcade-style shooters such as Super Stardust HD and Resogun. Following the game’s release, Housemarque was acquired by Sony.
Returnal’s PC port was included in the huge ‘leak’ of unannounced games on Nvidia’s GeForce Now streaming service last year.
