One of the most popular instant-messaging apps in the world, WhatsApp has revolutionized the way people talk to each other. Gone are the days of boring SMS and or struggling to send images via multimedia messages. Now, WhatsApp has over 2 billion active users every day.
Back in 2018, WhatsApp introduced the “delete for everyone” feature. It allowed users to delete sent messages on their phone as well as on the recipients'. Initially the duration for this feature was within 7 minutes. WhatsApp then increased the limit to 1 hour 8 minutes and 16 seconds.
Now, WhatsApp has increased the time limit even more. You can now delete messages that are over 2 days old! You can delete messages that are up to 2 days and 12 hours old.
WhatsApp had earlier rolled out this feature for its Beta users for testing purposes. But now it seems that the company has quietly rolled it out for public users as well. Although there has not been an official announcement from WhatsApp, the updated “delete for everyone” feature is working as of now.
The WhatsApp “How to Delete Messages” FAQ section still states that “You only have about an hour after you've sent a message to request to Delete for Everyone.” However, we have tried deleting messages that are nearly 2 days old and this feature already seems to be working.
So, go ahead and give this feature a try yourself! If it is not working for you, then we might suggest updating your WhatsApp to the latest version. Sometimes newly rolled out features are not instantly accessible to everyone. So, you might have to wait a little before you can try it out for yourself.
