It's Resident Evil 4 Remake launch day which means everyone can take the reimagined classic for a spin. There will be more to come even if you manage to race through its story in record time too as Capcom has already confirmed when the remake's Mercenaries mode will be added to the game.
Capcom rolled out one more trailer for its Resident Evil 4 remake to mark the long-awaited launch of the game, at the end of which it confirmed The Mercenaries will be available on April 7, 2023. Just a two-week wait. Best of all, the additional mode will be added to the game as free DLC. “The prolific 'The Mercenaries' challenge mode is also returning as free post-launch DLC on April 7th, 2023,” Capcom clarified via a press release.

The Mercenaries is an additional mode that was included in the original Resident Evil 4 and has been present in various other games in the series before and since. Tasking players with taking down as many enemies as possible within a time limit, it's a handy test to see just how ready you are to take on the game on hardcore mode if you haven't braved that incredibly daunting mountain within two weeks of launch. No word on whether you'll need to finish the game before it unlocks as was the case in the original.
Capcom also took the opportunity to remind Resident Evil fans that 4 Remake will be the next game in the series to get the VR treatment. Just like Village, 4 Remake's VR mode will be free DLC for anyone who already owns the game on PS5 and has a PS VR2 to play it on. The project was only confirmed to be in development last month, so it might be a while until you can virtually step into the new game.
