Capcom has announced the release date for the Resident Evil 4 remake’s VR mode.
The new mode, which will be released exclusively for PlayStation VR2, will be available on December 8.
The mode will be available as a free DLC update for the game, and a demo version will also be released on the same day.
Although not yet confirmed, it’s likely that the VR update will let players play through the entirety of the Resident Evil 4 remake in virtual reality.
This would bring it in line with the VR mode for Resident Evil Village, which was released in February and allowed the player to play through the game’s entire story in VR, using the VR2 Sense controllers to let them feel vibration, recoil and resistance.
PlayStation VR2 is priced at $549.99 / €599.99 / £529.99. For this, players get the PS VR2 headset, the PS VR2 Sense controllers and stereo headphones.

The PlayStation VR2 launch window line-up consisted of 37 games, with Horizon: Call of the Mountain and a VR version of Gran Turismo 7 available on day one.
However, subsequent high-profile releases have been few and far between since launch, making the Resident Evil 4 VR DLC one of the more eagerly anticipated releases for owners of the headset.
In VGC’s PlayStation VR2 review, we said the new device was “an incredible headset, but with few killer games right now”.
“PSVR 2 is an amazing headset, but whether it’s worth it to the average PS5 user is yet to be seen,” we wrote, “as despite the amazing technology, the software so far isn’t enough to convince most to run out and buy one.”
