New mods released for the Resident Evil 4 remake allow users to play as characters other than Leon, complete with their own animations.
The first one of these mods makes Ashley the main playable character, letting players use her beyond the short sequences of the vanilla game. The mod comes with two different costumes, her own voices, and her own animations, although they can be a little buggy, such as when receiving a radio call or when sliding under the door in Chapter 2.
The second Resident Evil 4 remake character mod released online a couple of days back makes Ada fully playable, using her animations from the upcoming Mercenaries mode. Her voice, however, isn't included in the mod, so Leon's grunts have been muted for a more authentic experience. Her facial animations also do not work in the current version of the mod, although creator Raq is looking into the matter.
Many are the mods that have been released for the Resident Evil 4 remake, and many are the features modders are experimenting with. One of the best experiments made so far is one which attempts to bring the series' classic fixed camera, which makes the game look amazing, but it isn't really usable due to the issues it would bring with combat.
Despite some issues with the PC port of the game, the Resident Evil 4 remake is one of the series' best remakes and one that is likely to end up being the best-selling to date. CAPCOM could have dared a bit more, as highlighted by Nathan in his review, but it is undeniable that the game is a great one for newcomers and veterans alike.
