Engine giant Unity has reportedly set about making another wave of layoffs.
80 Level reports that the company's CEO, Matthew Bromberg, sent out an email to staff yesterday announcing that there was going to be job cuts. At the moment, it's unclear how many staff are going to be impacted by this decision, but from a subsequent post from 80 Level, it's clear that the CTO, Engine Product and Ads teams are being cut.
Bromberg, however, has tried to explain these cuts, saying that the layoffs in its engine team are due to the fact that its product and engineering teams are too stretched workwise and that adding staff hasn't helped this; in fact, it has slowed down work.
Meanwhile, the cuts to its ad products arm are due to the merger with Ironsource, with all the teams involved in its advertising offering being integrated into its Runtime business.
"I want to thank each impacted colleague for their contributions to Unity," Bromberg wrote.
"We’ll do everything we can to handle these difficult changes with a lot of care and consideration, and to support impacted employees through this transition. Please remember to take care of yourselves as well. Confidential support through Lyra is available if you need it, and we’ll extend access to mental health benefits to those who are leaving."
