Acclaimed movie director Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, Army of the Dead) low-key announced that a videogame RPG based on his upcoming sci-fi movie Rebel Moon is under production.
Snyder joined The Nerd Queens podcast to discuss Rebel Moon and then suddenly switched to discussing this videogame project.
The one thing I'm really having a good time with, and I don't even know if I'm supposed to talk about it, but, you know, this RPG that we're doing, it's just literally insane. So immersive, so intense, and so huge. We talked about how we would do the game and we just said, let's go. All I'm going to say is that it was pitched to me, because I've always wanted to do an RPG, and they were like 'We can do it at this scale, or we can do it at a ridiculous scale'. And I was like 'Ridiculous scale!'. They were like 'Tell us everything about the universe, what's happening' and I was like 'Fine, happy to do it, let's go all the way'. It's going to be the completely realized universe, and it's really going to be fun.
Rebel Moon has had an interesting journey. Zack Snyder originally developed it as a pitch for a Star Wars movie spin-off, but once Disney acquired Lucasfilm, the project got shelved. Following that turn of events, Snyder has reworked the script to transform it into its own IP. The director also confessed to having been inspired by Akira Kurosawa's classic film Seven Samurai, his favorite movie.
Rebel Moon features an ensemble cast including Charlie Hunnam, Anthony Hopkins (who voices a robot), Sofia Boutella, Jenna Malone, Corey Stoll, Djijmon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, and Ed Skrein. Here's the official synopsis:
