Fortnite dataminers discovered the Lock On Pistol in the game's files last week. The pistol has now been added to the game via this week's update, and early indicators drop it right into the same box as most other new Fortnite weapons. Some people have been professing their love for the new pistol, while others have already decided they hate it and probably won't budge unless it is vaulted or completely overhauled.
It's unlikely those who dislike the Lock On Pistol will ever like it as their main issue with the weapon is exactly what you would expect. That the ability to lock on to a moving target, particularly a rival player, makes weakening and perhaps even eliminating them too easy. The pistol takes 0.4 seconds to lock onto a target, and you will then have to wait 0.5 seconds after firing off some rounds before you can lock on again.

While the pistol doesn't pack nearly as much punch as the Mythic Havoc Pump Shotgun, which recently got nerfed, it will still chip away at a player and wipe out one that needs to be finished off. Those of you who don't like it have claimed it's effectively an approved form of aim assist. It will also be pretty common too with a Rare rarity level and discoverable in floor loot, chests, drones, and by fishing for them.
Not everyone hates the Lock On Pistol. Most of the replies to the official trailer showcasing the weapon are positive. The clip perfectly shows off how much smoother high-paced action can be as a player shoots off a passing opponent on a motorbike as they grind a rail.
