Jack Black, fresh from his turn as the Peach-obsessed Bowser, is back alongside his brother with a new Tenacious D track – and this one has references to God of War, among several other PlayStation favourites. “I don’t play video games no more, I never play video games,” he warbles. “Except for a little bit of God of War, I never play video games.”
The music video is actually really good, and uses an animated style in 8K. At one point, we see Black’s alter-ego sprinting through Green Hill Zone as Sonic in a tribute to the 32-bit era of PS1 and SEGA Saturn. The likes of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Fallout 4 are also name dropped, while we also see Street Fighter, Tomb Raider, and Team Fortress represented.
At just 90 seconds long, this feels like the kind of song you’d get at the start or very end of an album, but it’s already racked up over 1.5 million views, which is impressive.
