Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced new, slimmer PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition models, which will launch in November in the United States at select local retailers and PlayStation Direct, followed by a global rollout in the months after. In Japan, a specific release date of November 10 was announced.
The new PlayStation 5 models have been reduced in volume by more than 30 percent, and in weight by 18 percent (standard) and 24 percent (Digital Edition) compared to the previous models. The consoles feature four separate cover panels—the top portion glossy and the bottom matte. Internal storage has also been upgraded to one terabyte.
Users who purchase the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition will have the option of adding the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive included with the standard PlayStation 5, as it can be purchased separately.
A horizontal stand will be included with the new models, while a new vertical stand compatible with all PlayStation 5 models will be sold separately.
Pricing is as follows:
Once inventory of the existing PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition models has sold out, the new design will be the only models available for purchase going forward.
