Somebody at Hulu must really like Christmas movies, as there are several dozen landing on the streaming service this month, including Elf, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and both versions of Miracle on 34th Street. But if you're not in the holiday spirit yet, here are our picks for the must-watch offerings for the tenth month of the year.
Rapper/actress Awkwafina stars in this comedy that hits one of our power fantasies: cheating to win on game shows. When Anne and her sister Jenny need to make cash to cover their mother's gambling debts and pay a dog's ransom, they turn to TV competitions as the only way to rack stacks fast enough to survive. Looks fun.
Emma Corrin plays Gen Z detective Darby Hart in this compelling-looking whodunit that takes nine guests to a remote retreat courtesy of a reclusive billionaire. When one of them winds up dead, the game is afoot. Sounds a little bit like Glass Onion, but we loved Glass Onion so it's fine. It's created by The OA masterminds Brit Marling and Zal Batmangli. The frst two episodes premiere on Nov. 14.
We love a good documentary, especially when it takes a new angle on something we thought we knew about. The story of physicist Ted Hall, recruited to work on the Manhattan Project and in turn giving atomic secrets to the Soviet Union is a fascinating one, with the mild-mannered scientist driven by the desire that no one nation possess that terrible power.
