will mark the introduction of Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson into the MCU. Right by Reynolds’ side is Hugh Jackman, who reprises his iconic role of Wolverine from the X-Men franchise. Director Shawn Levy believes Wolverine’s inclusion in Deadpool 3 will keep the franchise’s DNA while helping it evolve.
“Once we knew it was a Wolverine-Deadpool movie, my God, what a gift to any storyteller,” Levy told Josh Horowitz on an episode of Happy Sad Confused. “Not only do you have two icon actors playing their most iconic roles, but you have two characters whose dynamic is already famously fraught. And anytime you’re dealing with characters who start from a place of deep dislike and conflict and difference from each other... what a great formula for storytelling.”
Levy went on to say that Deadpool 3 has more “character, depth, and heart” than people are expecting.
Reynolds returns to the franchise’s third film as Wade Wilson/Deadpool. Starring alongside Reynolds is Jackman, who makes his highly-anticipated return as Wolverine. Characters from previous Deadpool movies returning for the third film: Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, and Rob Delaney as Peter.
Additional cast members include Emma Corrin as the lead villain, Matthew Macfadyen in an undisclosed role, and Jennifer Garner as Elektra Natchios. Garner played Elektra in 2003’s Daredevil and 2005’s Elektra.
Levy directs Deadpool 3 and will produce alongside Reynolds and Kevin Feige. The writing team on Deadpool 3 features Levy, Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. Deadpool was scheduled for a May 3, 2024 release date.
