Star Wars: KoTOR remake reportedly still in development at Saber Interactive
The Knights of the Old Republic remake is still being worked on by at least two developers at Saber Interactive, it’s claimed.
Billed as a collaboration between developer Aspyr Media and production partners Lucasfilm Games and Sony Interactive Entertainment, the game was announced as a timed PS5 console exclusive during a PlayStation Showcase event in September 2021 but has reportedly been beset by problems over the last couple of years.
Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier wrote a message on the ResetEra forum, saying sources told him the game hadn’t yet been abandoned, even if its current status is unclear.
“‘Is it alive?’ and ‘will it ever actually come out?’ are two very different questions,” Schreier wrote. “A third is ‘if it does ever come out, what will it actually look like?’
“That said, I’ve talked to two people at Saber who both say they’re still currently working on it, so I don’t believe that the comment that it isn’t being worked on ‘in any way’ right now is true.”
Schreier later clarified on X (formerly Twitter), saying: “Can’t say whether the KoTOR Remake will ever actually come out, but yes, two people from Saber Interactive tell me they’re still on it, despite recent rumors that nobody is working on the game (Saber took the project from Aspyr last year, as Bloomberg reported then).”
Schreier’s claims follow reports from Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb that nobody was working on the game anymore.
