It looks like the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake isn't as dead as recent reports have claimed, as it's now being reported that several Aspyr developers are currently working on the project.
To say that it's been a rough time to be a KOTOR fan over the past few years would be an understatement. Not only did KOTOR 2's DLC get quietly cancelled (causing a lawsuit in the process), but the long-awaited remake of the first game has been through development hell, to the point where some insiders have claimed that it's never going to be released.
Things have looked bad for the KOTOR remake in 2023, with Sony even delisting the game's announcement trailer just a few months ago, but the final nail in the coffin came last week when gaming insider Jeff Grubb claimed that it wasn't even being worked on right now, which certainly made it seem like the project was dead.
It seems the rumours of KOTOR's death weren't entirely true, however, as Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has followed up that claim by reporting that he's heard from two developers at Saber Interactive, the team who took over development of the remake from Aspyr, who are currently working on the game right now.
Schreier said, "'Is it alive?' and "Will it ever actually come out?" are two very different questions. A third is 'If it does ever come out, what will it actually look like?' That said, I've talked to two people at Saber who both say they're still currently working on it, so I don't believe that the comment that it isn't being worked on "in any way" right now is true."
