The work Belgian developer Larian Studios has put into getting the Xbox Series S version of Baldur's Gate 3 up to snuff will result in performance improvements for all the platforms the RPG is available on, including PS5. The upgrades will arrive as part of the game's fifth major patch, which is expected to go live this week — more details will be shared later today along with confirmation of new features.
Word of PS5 performance enhancements comes from director of publishing Michael Douse, who teases they might be the «least exciting thing» about the title's next update, so it sounds like the patch will be a very significant one. According to Douse, there's chatter around Larian Studios of employees proud they were able to «finally» implement certain tweaks, fixes, and changes. Those who have managed to reach the RPG's third act have reported technical issues during the narrative's conclusion — during co-op especially — so it's hoped these problems will be ironed out with today's update. Alongside welcome fixes from optimisation done in the Xbox Series S version, it's expected new features like a permadeath mode will be added to the game.
