PS5 just released its new update, which will add several and highly requested features such as Discord chat. This update however offers way more than just that, providing a hefty firmware overhaul for PS5 users with many features players will find useful.
This firmware update has been in Beta for over a month now as PS5 added the Discord voice chat feature at the beginning of February to see how it fares with players. To some extent, the way Sony integrated Discord has been a slight disappointment for gamers as most hoped for complete integration, whereas this merge is only limited to the voice chat feature. However, this can be deemed as only the beginning of a relationship between Discord and PS5. If the voice chat is a success with users, and considering its current release from beta, then maybe more features will be added to the Discord experience later down the line.
Sony’s Remaining Acquisition Budget Is Running Low
In order to add this feature to the PS5, a user needs to link their PSN account to their Discord account, and then start the voice chat over on Discord. Once that's done the player can join the voice chat through their PS5 and hang out with their friends, regardless of if they have a PS5 or not. For those who previously linked their accounts with PS5 to display the game they're currently playing, it's useful to note they need to link the accounts again for the Discord feature to work. However, this is not the only addition the update comes with. Those with a 1440p display can now enable VRR for smoother visuals and there are also software updates for the DualSense, DualSense Edge, and PSVR2 Sense Controllers.
