Work has begun on the next Superman film. Writer James Gunn confirmed that the script is finished and pre-production is underway, although he has yet to say who will replace Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel.
"I’m honored to be a part of the legacy," wrote Gunn in a tweet. "And what better day than #SupermanAnniversary Day to dive fully into early pre-production on #SupermanLegacy? Costumes, production design, and more now up and running.”

If the picture of the script wasn't proof enough that Gunn has finished writing Superman: Legacy, he told a fan point-blank that "the whole script" is finished.
That said, we still don't know who will play the role of Superman. Henry Cavill initially thought he would return to James Gunn and Peter Safran's rebooted DC cinematic universe, but after a meeting last December, Cavill learned they were looking for a younger Superman.
"I will, after all, not be returning as Superman," Cavill wrote on Instagram. "After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes."
A month later, Gunn had to settle rumors that talks were underway for the new Superman, saying that casting will be discussed "after the script is finished." Now that the script is finished, fans are eager for an update.
