The performance report of mobile games in June 2022 is here and it has some surprise entrants in it. The report comes from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower and it appears that June 2022 has brought in $6.4 billion as direct revenue from players spending in App Store and Play Store, marking a decrease in year-on-year (YoY) revenue by around 10 per cent. The YoY revenue is a marker of the revenue performance in a particular period of the current fiscal year as compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year (in this case, it would be June 2021 vs June 2022). Despite that, the top 5 grossing mobile games witnessed high revenue growth with some of the biggest winners being Candy Crush, Pokemon Go and Genshin Impact. Surprisingly, the game which has taken the first place is not even available in India. Honor of Kings by Tencent raked in $238.2 million in player spending to claim the top spot, as per the report by Sensor Tower. According to the report, around 95 per cent of the total revenue of the game came directly from China. Taiwan and Thailand contributed 2 and 1.7 per cent respectively.
The second place has been claimed by MiHoYo’s Genshin Impact, an open world adventure fantasy RPG game. In June 2022, the game generated $154 million in gross revenue totalling all the player purchases.
