A devoted fan gave several beloved characters from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet a 90s retro-style anime makeover. Pokemon has garnered no shortage of talented followers throughout the years, and this particular piece is a glimpse into how Pokemon Scarlet and Violet might have appeared when the franchise was still in its infancy.
The life of the Pokemon franchise spans over twenty years, and in that time, several generations of fans have fallen in love with the colorful world developed by series creator Satoshi Tajiri. Pokemon has inspired vast quantities of fan art that remains appreciated by the fanbase despite the time gap between several eras. Now, one artist shared her own take on how some of the most beloved characters of Generation 9 might have been designed if they were created during the start of the Pokemania boom back in the 1990s.
Twitter user and artist Allyboi (@reimidy) posted a compilation of her various reimaginings of the characters of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The images notably featured retro-anime style redesign for fan-favorite Nemona, the rival character for the entry and one of the most beloved trainers of Generation 9. Allyboi also shared similar artwork for several other popular characters who made their debut in Scarlet and Violet, namely Iono, Penny and Rika.
This wasn't the first time a Pokemon fan put a spin on the series' iconic style. The global fanbase of the franchise fostered an overflowing variety of creative interpretations for both its trainers and its titular Pokemon, such as one fan's realistic rendering of Tyranitar.
Another artist put a spin on Generation 6 with a complete human redesign for their Pokemon from Pokemon X and Y. Their work featured human personas for their main team, which included Greninja, Tyrantrum, and Aegislash.
