Phil Harrison has left Google
Industry veteran Phil Harrison has left Google.
The news was revealed by Business Insider and corroborated by an update to the exec's LinkedIn profile, which shows that he departed the tech giant earlier this month.
Harrison joined Google back in 2018 as a vice president heading up its Stadia cloud games streaming business. Over his career, he has worked at a variety of games companies, most notably PlayStation – where he was president of worldwide studios for over 15 years – before joining Microsoft as a corporate vice president in 2012. He's also held a board role at Atari and streaming firm Gaikai.
There's no word from Google or Harrison where he is off to next.
His departure comes in the wake of Google closing down the Stadia streaming service in January of this year. Launched back in November 2019, the platform came with its fair share of problems and there were reports that the service failed to garner the kind of audience that Google had hoped for.
The first-party Stadia Games and Entertainment development arm was shut down in February 2021.
