S-Game has come on to a recent Discord to discuss some new details about upcoming action game Phantom Blade Zero.
Phantom Blade Zero was just newly unveiled in the latest PlayStation Showcase. While studio S-Game isn’t that well known so far, they have done good work building the game in Unreal 5, producing some visually impressive previews. We will go through a few of those new details, courtesy of MP1st.
First things first, since it’s quite in vogue. In spite of the visual similarities, S-Game states that Phantom Blade Zero will not be as hard as FromSoftware’s masocore games. S-Game isn’t leaning on difficulty or punishment, but there will be some Dark Souls like elements.
They also made it clear on the onset that there will be no gacha or microtransaction elements. So we already know that S-Game won’t be going for Genshin Impact’s game design. It is worth noting that this doesn’t rule out other choices from popular ongoing trends from live service games, like season passes.
Phantom Blade Zero has been confirmed so far only for the PlayStation 5. S-Game is leaning into this hard, so they will be making use of the DualSense’s unique features. If you’re one of those PlayStation fans that do enjoy haptic feedback and those other features, you can look forward to that.
Now for a little bit about the story. The setting is named Phantom Blade, and it is a miserable place in general.
The protagonist’s name is literally Soul, an agent of order who works both in espionage and assassination. Apparently he ‘breaks free of manipulation’, and becomes someone who leaves ‘light of hope’ wherever he goes.
