Avowed was one of the many reasons why Xbox may have won the weekend at Summer Game Fest. Even more has been revealed about Obsidian's next big adventure, including details on exactly how big it's going to be, its open zones and its layout being compared to the ones you can find in The Outer Worlds.
Avowed's game director Carrie Patel revealed more details about the game during today's Xbox Extended Showcase. When asked how big The Living Lands, the world in which Avowed is set, will be, Patel revealed it's comparable to the aforementioned Outer Worlds, and also Knights of the Old Republic 2.

“It is set up as a series of interconnected open zones that players can explore at their own pace,” Patel explained, perhaps easing the worries of players who were hoping Avowed would be an open world experience. “You can invest in discovering every nook and cranny in the world, discovering every secret, finding every sidequest, meeting every character - or you can have a much more focused experience.”
“It's really up to players and how much time they want to spend in The Living Lands, but I'm hopeful they're going to spend a lot of time with us once Avowed releases.” As is the case with the two games Patel has compared Avowed to already, it sounds like how long Obsidian's next big game takes to finish depends on the kind of player you are. If you focus on the main quest and nothing else, you won't see everything it has to offer.
