The first photo has arrived of the full main cast from the upcoming Percy Jackson series. The multimedia franchise began its life as the children's novel series Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan, originally published in 2005. The series, which follows a modern-day group of kids who are descended from figures in Greek mythology, consists of five main books followed by supplementary stories and graphic novels. It was adapted into a film franchise in 2012 by Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone director Chris Columbus, who helmed Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief in 2010, passing the baton to director Thor Freudenthal for its 2013 sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters.
The franchise has only expanded since then, and now includes a video game and a stage musical. The latest development will see Percy Jackson adapted into a Disney+ live-action television series, which will begin production this June. The series will be run by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz with involvement from Riordan, and the pilot episode will be directed by James Bobin, who helmed 2011's The Muppets and 2019's Dora and the Lost City of Gold.
