Supernatural prequel The Winchesters has been officially ordered to series, making it the first live-action spinoff for the long-running dark fantasy show. Supernatural ran for an impressive fifteen seasons and produced over 325 episodes, finally ending in late 2020. The show starred Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki for the entire run, with many recurring actors having long-term story arcs, including Jim Beaver, Misha Collins, and Mark Sheppard. Supernatural follows brothers Dean and Sam Winchester (Ackles and Padalecki, respectively) as they travel across the country hunting supernatural creatures, spiritually akin to The X-Files.
Though the series has come to an end, its devoted fanbase remains strong, and The CW has continued to look for ways to continue this world with another project. The Winchesters first went into development last year with Ackles on board as an executive producer and narrator. The prequel series will follow the love story of Sam and Dean's parents, Mary (Meg Donnelly) and John (Drake Rodger) Winchester, starting with how they met. Up until now, The Winchesters has merely remained a potential addition to The CW's 2022-2023 lineup. However, with the network having just axed several shows, the door is open for some major new additions.
