The first images from The CW's prequel series Walker: Independence have arrived, showing off new characters including Abby Walker. Walker, which stars Jared Padalecki and premiered its first season on The CW on January 21, 2021, is a reboot of the popular Chuck Norris series Walker, Texas Ranger, which ran on CBS from 1993 to 2001. The series follows Walker, a widower ranger who returns to his hometown after a year undercover and begins to investigate the death of his wife. The series also stars Molly Hagan, Keegan Allen, Violet Brinson, Kale Culley, Coby Bell, Jeff Pierre, and Padalecki's former Supernatural co-star Mitch Pileggi.
Even though it has only been on the air for two seasons, Walker has been a solid success for The CW, even surviving their recent purge where they canceled a heap of their reboot series including Charmed, Dynasty, and Roswell, New Mexico. In addition to season 3, which is scheduled to return on Thursday nights this Fall, the show will air alongside the prequel Walker: Independence, which is being executive produced by Padalecki. The series will be taking place in Independence, Texas, in the 1800s, with Shadowhunters and Arrow star Katherine McNamara set to play Abby Walker, the ancestor of Padalecki's character Cordell Walker.
