Overwatch 2 fans speculate Mauga is the next Tank hero for Season 8

With the news of the upcoming Season 7 dropping for Overwatch 2, there are some hints as to what’s coming in the Season after that one. Overwatch 2 fans online speculate that Mauga is going to be the next Tank hero coming to Season 8. This is due to the latest map Samoa leaving hints to the next new hero.

Many Overtwatch fans will know about Mauga from the Overwatch lore. He connects to Baptiste’s past as a former friend, and works for Talon as a Heavy Assault. Talon is a terrorist organization, basically enemies of the Overwatch organization. So why would fans speculate online that Mauga is the next Tank hero for Season 8 in Overwatch 2?

Well, in this Reddit post on the Overwatch subreddit, this user mentioned that Mauga is heavily teased in the new Samoa map coming to Season 7. Releasing on October 10, Samoa is a whole new Control map where you’ll fight on tropical beaches, villages, and even a volcano! But one of the buildings includes Mauga’s shirt.

I know we know Mauga is coming but this really hammers it home.

It wouldn’t be surprising if this was a tease for Overwatch 2’s next hero for Season 8. But how would he play? Well, as a Heavy Assault, we can expect dual miniguns, or even cannons. In his character art, Mauga is quite large and looks powerful, so expect a charge or push maneuver. He could also have a shield as well.

Otherwise, all we know so far is that Samoa seemingly includes Mauga’s home. That seems like a good enough hint to Overwatch fans that he’ll be the next Tank hero. Many players have been waiting for Mauga for awhile now, unsure of when he’d arrive officially. Season 8 seems like the perfect time with this map!
