Paramount Plus has given us a first look at season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, in a full scene released during the studio’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con — and it’s exactly the kind of playful situation the series has become known for.
The scene shows several human Enterprise crew members being genetically altered into (kind of racist?) Vulcans for reasons unknown but seemingly necessary. Then, after the successful and unexpectedly swift conclusion of their mission, well… things stay silly.
Fans may be a little antsy at this light hearted clip, after season 2’s cliffhanger ending, which left half the crew safe on the Enterprise and half the crew captured by the lizard-like Gorn, with Captain Pike’s paramour, Captain Marie Batel (Melanie Scrofano), fatally infected with Gorn eggs. But look at it this way: This new teaser unsurprisingly hints the Gorn capture was not the end for our heroes. And Paramount also confirmed a new cast member for the series, Cillian O’Sullivan (Then You Run) as Dr. Roger Korby, Nurse Chapel’s fiancée, first introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series.
The real bad news for fans is that they shouldn’t expect season 3 to premiere any earlier than 2025. But the good news is that with shooting concluded this past May, we’ll probably get the next installment of the series early in 2025, rather than later, and with Strange New Worlds already renewed for a fourth season, this crew will be boldly going for a while yet.
