A new Oppenheimer set photo shows stars Cillian Murphy and Matt Damon working on the next Christopher Nolan movie. The popular blockbuster filmmaker is switching gears after the high-concept Tenet, adapting the biography American Prometheus to tell the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer. With frequent Nolan collaborator Murphy cast in the title role, Oppenheimer is scheduled to release theatrically on July 21, 2023.
The film will be Nolan's first under his new deal with Universal Studios, following a much-publicized rift between him and Warner Bros. over their 2021 HBO Max release strategy, and the change of distributor has in no way hampered the filmmaker's ability to attract A-list talent. Oppenheimer's cast has grown to almost absurd proportions — in addition to Murphy and Damon, the project's actors include Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, and Kenneth Branagh, to name but a few. The movie will center primarily on Oppenheimer's involvement with the Manhattan Project, which resulted in him being one of those called the «father of the atomic bomb.»

Now, a new Oppenheimer set photo shared by @FilmOppenheimer captures Murphy and Damon in action on the Nolan movie. The image shows the two in costume as Oppenheimer and Manhattan Project director Leslie Groves, respectively, as they stand in front of a podium. The photo also captures the production using an IMAX camera, something that has become a trademark of Nolan's filmmaking since 2008's The Dark Knight. Check out the image below:
