It's not often that a movie comes around where every new actor joining the project is headline-worthy. But then again, most movies aren't made by Christopher Nolan. Whether it's a mind-bending story waiting to happen or simply an impressively robust cast of big names, there's always something worth talking about when it comes to this particular filmmaker.
The latest update in that regard involves the latter. Matthias Schweighöfer, who captivated audiences in Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, has joined Nolan's already star-studded upcoming project Oppenheimer. His own role is unknown at this time, but given how the director has been casting the film so far, odds are it will be somebody important. This is a pretty heavy story, after all, based on the Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin biographical book American Prometheus.
Cillian Murphy Says Expect Something Different With Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer
The rest of Oppenheimer's cast is already a borderline intimidating list of heavy-hitters. Along with Schweighöfer, the film will feature Cillian Murphy in the title role as J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist who famously took part in the creation of the first atomic bomb. The two will be joined by Rami Malek, Josh Hartnett, Kenneth Branagh, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, and even Robert Downey Jr., and that's just scratching the surface. The Suicide Squad's David Dastmalchian also recently joined up.
Schweighöfer made waves with his enjoyable performance as expert thief Ludwig Dieter in Army of the Dead.
